Jay grew up in Georgetown, Texas where his dad was a rancher and businessman. He committed his life to Christ and by age 16 sensed the Lord's call to use his gifts to build God’s Kingdom. He attended Baylor University, New Orleans Seminary and his doctorate is from Southern Seminary in Kentucky. Jay and Mary Ruth have been blessed with four children. He came to First Baptist Montgomery initially in 1981 as the Associate Pastor. From 1984-1991 he served as the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, Virginia. Jay came to be the senior pastor of FBC Montgomery in 1991.
Chuck AshleyMinister to Adults
Before coming to First Baptist Montgomery in March
1998, Chuck served as an officer in the United States Air Force for 27
years with an emphasis in education and training. Chuck has the
privilege of encouraging and enabling adults at FBC to become more like
Christ through Bible Study, Discipleship, Family Development, and
Leadership Training. Chuck and his wife, Ann, have two married daughters, Jennifer Tillman and Angela Davidson and two grandsons, Jay and Jack Davidson.

Minister of Community Ministries
Tim grew in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he accepted Jesus as his Savior at age 11, and was baptized with his twin brother, Tom. After studying civil engineering at NC State, he felt God’s call to be a missionary journeyman (a two year program of the IMB for college graduates). He served in Zimbabwe as a youth worker. God showed him that Africa was his place of service for the years ahead. He met Charlotte Cushing at Southwestern Seminary. They married in 1979, moved to Zimbabwe in 1983, and served with the IMB in five African countries over the next 33 years. He and Charlotte are the parents of 3 adult children. They returned to Montgomery in 2016 where God directed Tim into service with Community Ministries.
Minister of Music
Ed has been on our staff since June 2011. He grew up in Homewood and is a graduate of Samford University and the University of Montevallo. He and his wife, Sharon, have two children, Lindsay and Patrick. Ed is a fourth generation member of First Baptist Montgomery. Prior to coming FBC, Ed was a bi-vocational minister of music and a full-time public school music teacher. He retired from teaching after 26 years in and around the Birmingham area.
Kathy has been on staff at First Baptist Montgomery since
May 2000. She is a graduate of Huntingdon College, where she earned a
Bachelor of Science in Counseling and Social work. She holds a Master of
Religious Education from New Orleans Theological Seminary. Kathy and
her husband, Beau, have been active in ministries at First Baptist for

Brian came to FBC in November 2007. Brian is married to Kristi, and they have three children, Andrew, Eden, and Matthew. Brian is a graduate of Samford University and has a Master of Arts in Missiology from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Brian has a passion for making disciples of Christ in Montgomery and to the ends of the earth.
Kenny has served at First Baptist Montgomery since August
2003. Originally from Brewton, Alabama, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in
Music from Mobile College and a Master of Religious Education from New
Orleans Seminary. He and his wife, Donna, have two sons, Jonathan and
Joshua. For more than twenty-five years Kenny has served churches across
Alabama and has played an active role in the work of the local
association and the state convention. He has served as president of the
Shelby Baptist Ministers Conference and as president of the Birmingham
Religious Education Association. He has served as a special worker with
the Alabama Baptist Sunday School Department since 1982. Kenny’s
writings have appeared in numerous Lifeway Christian Resources since
1986. His writings have also appeared in Dimension: WMU Leadership
Magazine and the Alabama Baptist state paper.
Associate Minister of Music
Justin joined our staff as College Intern in January 2013. After serving for a year, Justin was brought on staff part time, but now serves full-time. Justin married Anslee in April 2014. He is a graduate of Auburn University Montgomery where he studied Information Systems and is pursuing his Masters of Divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Minister to Children
Glen came to First Baptist in January 2008.
He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Development and he received a Master of Arts in Religious
Education with an emphasis in Childhood Education from Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary. Glen desires to “grow children up in
the Lord so when they are old they will not depart from it.” He loves
hanging out with children of all ages in hopes of pointing them to Christ. He and his wife, Lisa, have two boys, Jack and Mason, and a dog who thinks he is human named Gabbie.
Russell, originally from Opelika, AL, came to know Christ as
a child and was called into the ministry in the 10th grade. He
graduated from Auburn University then received his M.Div from Beeson
Divinity School in Birmingham. After serving in two churches across
Alabama, Russell joined us as student minister in February 2011. He is
married to Lyndsey Wheatley McCrory and has two daughters, Claire and
Nancie attended the University of Alabama earning a degree in elementary education with specialization in special education. She has worked in children/preschool ministries in North Carolina, Texas and Alabama. She and her husband, Mark, have been members of FBC since 2009, serving in the preschool/children’s ministries as well as teaching in the young married class. They have two sons, John Mark and Hunter, and one grandson, Tate.
Patti joined the First Baptist Montgomery staff as Church
Administrator after serving in several churches in Alabama. She came
with experience as Minister of Education and Youth as well as Minister
of Education and Church Administration. She is a graduate of the
University of Montevallo. She and her husband, Carey, have two sons,
Tyler and Payton.
Amanda joined the First Baptist Montgomery staff as
Communications Director in August 2006. She has been an active member of
First Baptist Church since September 1999 and is responsible for all
internal and external communications at FBC including printed materials,
the web site, and the broadcast ministry. Originally from Tallassee,
Amanda graduated from Auburn University with degrees in Public Relations
and Graphic Design.
